Mind Mapping in Practice
Mind mapping is a tool we use frequently to teach first-year college students how to “make meaning” as they read, planning essays, and problem solving. It is also a useful tool for teaching processes – especially for STEM classes. We have always used existing “maps” that we printed off and distributed to students in class. Having tools like Sketchboard could be really useful by allowing students to conceptualize their own maps. Furthermore, it may increase student buy in for using mind mapping as a learning tool. I’m definitely going to brainstorm with my team regarding ways we can integrate this into the classroom.
My Project
For my project, I used Sketchboard to create a mind map of our UNIV course curriculum evaluation and revision process. I could have put this together as a timeline, but think that it works just as well as a mind map for our purposes. I envision expanding the existing map as we come up with new curriculum ideas.
